    CancerCare is offering a free, 8-week live support group for people diagnosed with breast cancer or gynecological cancers in New York and New Jersey who are receiving a form of active treatment (including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatments and/or advanced cancer treatment). This group will provide a safe place to exchange support, get information and receive guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living with a cancer diagnosis.

    • Assist you in learning new ways of coping

This group will provide a safe place to exchange support, get information and receive guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living through post-treatment survivorship.

    • Help increase feelings of hope and empowerment

    The next group cycle will begin in late February 2024 and meets on Mondays 5:30 - 7 p.m. ET.

    This cycle of this support group will utilize a secure video platform. Group members will still have the option to call in if they do not have access.

    CancerCare is offering a free, 8-week biweekly live support group for people in New York in their 20s and 30s who have completed treatment within the last 18 months. This group will provide a safe place to exchange support, get information and receive guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living through post-treatment survivorship.

    Our Groups:

    • Provide cancer-focused support
    • Reduces feelings of loneliness, anxiety and distress
    • Help increase feelings of hope and empowerment
    • Assist you in learning new ways of coping
    • Help you improve communication with your medical team and loved ones

    We are currently recruiting for our next group cycle which begins February 28, 2024. This group meets biweekly for eight sessions on Wednesdays from 5:30 -7 p.m. ET. The group is open to New York residents only.

    CancerCare is offering a free, 12-week live support group for older adults (65+) diagnosed with cancer in New York and New Jersey who are receiving a form of active treatment . Treatment may consist of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatments and/or advanced cancer treatment. This group will provide a safe place to exchange support and receive information and guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living with a cancer diagnosis.

  • Living With Cancer: A Journal Writing Support Group

    CancerCare is offering a free, 8-week live writing group for people ages 19+, who are diagnosed with cancer and living in New York or New Jersey and are receiving a form of active treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatments and/or advanced cancer treatment) or are up to 18 months post-treatment. This group will provide a dedicated space to respond to writing prompts, reflect upon and share your writing with the group and exchange support and guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living with a cancer diagnosis.

    Our Groups:

    • Provide cancer-focused support
    • Reduces feelings of loneliness, anxiety and distress
    • Help increase feelings of hope and empowerment
    • Assist you in learning new ways of coping

    • Helps you learn new ways of coping
    • Increases feelings of hope and empowerment
    • Provides you with practical information about treatment and resources
    • Helps you communicate better with your medical team and loved ones

    Start Date

    The February 2024 cycle is at capacity and closed for registration. The June 2024 cycle is currently open for registration. The group is open to New York residents only. This group meets biweekly on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. EST for 8 sessions.

    This group will utilize a secure video platform. Group members will still have the option to call in if they do not have access to video technology.

  • Living With Cancer: Spanish-Speaking Patient Support Group

    CancerCare is offering a free, 8-week live support group for Spanish-speaking people diagnosed with cancer, living in New York, who are receiving a form of active treatment (which may consist of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatments and/or advanced cancer treatment). This group will provide a safe place to exchange support, get information and receive guidance while discussing the unique challenges of living with a cancer diagnosis. The group is open to New York residents only.

    Start Date

    We are currently recruiting for our next support group cycle, which will begin October 27, 2023. The group will meet in person, every other Friday, from 3 - 4:30 p.m.

  • Kids Talk: Children’s Support Group

    Cancer impacts the whole family, including children. It’s normal for kids to experience many different emotions when a loved one is diagnosed. They can often feel isolated, scared, confused and angry, among many other things.

    Kids Talk is a safe, supportive environment, where children ages 7-12 can express their feelings, share their experiences and learn coping skills for dealing with big feelings. This group meets biweekly on Zoom, and pre-registration is required.

    Our Groups:

    • Reduces feelings of loneliness, anxiety and distress
    • Helps kids learn new ways of coping
    • Increases feelings of hope and empowerment
    • Helps children communicate their emotions in a healthy way
    • Help connect children with peers who are navigating similar feelings and challenges

  • Teen Talk: Adolescent Support Group

    CancerCare is offering a free, 8-week support group for teenagers impacted by cancer. This group will provide a safe space for teenagers ages 13-17, who have a loved one diagnosed with cancer in New York and New Jersey. This group will provide a space for teens to exchange support while discussing similar challenges of having a loved one with cancer. Activities and time to talk will allow group members the opportunity to express their feelings and receive feedback from peers dealing with similar concerns. Throughout each session participants will have the opportunity to explore the commonalities among members and receive/provide support.

Wig Clinic

Women diagnosed with any type of cancer who are receiving chemotherapy are eligible to receive a free wig. CancerCare provides new and gently used wigs in a variety of lengths, colors and styles. We offer both in-person (COVID vaccination required) and virtual appointments. During an in-person, 30-minute fitting, women have the opportunity to try on different wigs. Basic wig care is discussed, although we do not have the capacity to cut or style wigs ourselves.

Breast Prosthesis Clinic

Women with breast cancer who have had a mastectomy are eligible to receive mastectomy supplies free of charge. During an individual 30-minute fitting, women can try on mastectomy bras and breast prostheses with assistance from a trained fitter. We’re able to provide two mastectomy bras and a breast prosthesis free of charge. It is recommended that clients wait at least six weeks post-surgery to allow for proper healing.
